Mississauga Cycling Facts

  • City plans expanded bike network. read here.
  • There are over 200 km of bike paths and lanes in Mississauga
  • Every year the city produces a map of bike paths in the city. Click here to get one
  • The Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committeewas founded in 1994
  • Phil Green was the founding chair
  • The City Council passed a bike plan in 2003 and is revising it in 2008. The goal is that every citizen should be within 2 km of a bike path.
  • Every year the City of Mississauga grants the Phil Green Recognition Award to a citizen who shows exemplary volunteerism in promoting cycling or sustainable transportation in Mississauga.

Cars are what comes to mind for many people when they think of Mississauga, and they can be easily forgiven for it. There is, however, a dedicated group of citizens who are working to build more bike paths and lanes around the city. They are the citizen members of the Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee. There are also one or two prominent promoters of cycling in Mississauga, Mayor Hazel McCallion and Councillor Pat Mullin, as you can see below.
